Dieting Momma

Sept 4th (1)

Primal eating is going really well. There are moments when I really want something junky, but not enough to make me actually cheat.
Just been feeling so positive about all of this this time.
So, weight this morning was all over the place. The lowest that showed more than once was 209 on the dot. WOO! So I'm going to count that heh.
That's 6lbs of bloat and hopefully some fat lost.
Short term goal will be to hit the 100's by my birthday on Sept 20th. FX that it happens :)

Yesterday I made DELICIOUS breakfast sausage. It's so easy to do yourself and you know exactly what is going in to the sausage instead of the premade stuff.

I looked up a recipe and just adjusted it to be more primal friendly.

1lb ground pork
1tsp salt (may want to use a little less)
1tsp sage
sprinkle of marjoram
sprinkle of fennel seed
1/2tsp black pepper

Sept 2nd (1)

Woops... I keep forgetting to post!
So I've been eating off and on. Saturday I had juice all day and ate dinner. Sunday, had juice for breakfast and a small snack and ate dinner as well.
Today, no juice so far.
BUT I've been sticking to primal (except for the little bit of rice I had on Saturday dinner which isn't that bad).
With the added food though, my weight did go back up to 212 today, BUT it was 213 yesterday so it is still going down. WOOT!

I'm going to try to have a few days here and there of nothing but juice. Mostly, I'll change it up though.
I really enjoy juicing. My digestive system is just all screwed up and juicing allows me to get the nutrients that I wouldn't if I just TRIED to eat everything that you're supposed to.
I'll have to watch the more fruity ones now that I am eating again b/c it could have the opposite effect and cause me to gain weight b/c of the sugar. So those will have to be made on days where maybe I'm only eating dinner or something.

I'm back on to primal again which I'm really excited about! You just do not appreciate food until you're not eating it! LOL

August 30th (1)

Crap, I forgot to post yesterday! Oops...
Yesterday's weigh-in was 210.6. Not great compared to the other days, but still something.
This morning's weigh-in was 209.6! WOO!
That is 6.2 pounds in 4 days! AWESOME!!

So yesterday, I decided that I was going to eat today. I was dreading it, but I just knew my mom was going to call me to come over for something. And sure enough, she did just that. And knowing my mom, she'll probably try to feed me and I'm sorry, but I'm not going to pass up her cooking. Thankfully most of what she fixes is healthy though so I won't have too much guilt about it.

I've already had 1 egg today. I fixed 2 scrambled eggs for Zoe. Well, not just for her.
She ate a little bit but wanted to play with it more so wasted about an egg worth (that the dogs enjoyed). And then I ate the rest.
1 egg and I feel guilty about it... SIGH!
Oh well, I'm not going to sweat it.
I feel great and I'm super proud of myself for doing nothing but juice for 4 days.

So the plan is... tomorrow I'll be doing nothing but juice again. Then on Sunday, I'll be juicing during the day and having a primal dinner. I'll be alternating that w/ a juicing day and take it from there.
Hopefully the weight will still come off. I know it won't be as fast, but so long as it's still going down is good in my book.
I may do 2 days of juicing and then juice + dinner some times as well. Just depends on how I feel.

Anyway, this whole short experience has really opened my eyes though. Junk food is good, but so is healthy stuff. And what do I want... junk food for a few minutes or years with friends and family?

August 28th (2)

Today went well, that is until I took a nap. Zoe went down for her 2nd nap so I decided I would take one too. She had woken up and was playing in her crib so I dozed off for 5 minutes. Well 5 minutes was enough for my brain to produce it's own fried chicken commercial.
TORTURE. I can still picture it. The golden delicious color of the chicken. The slowly peeling back the meat to reveal scrumptious juices. UUUUUUUUUUUUUGH
OMG, I never wanted to eat so bad before in my life! It wasn't even about hunger either, it was just the WANT.
I'm just now getting over the craving. It's still there, but actually tolerable now. It was BAD earlier, trust me.
I just do not know how people can do this for over a month or TWO! That is insane to me. I'm on day THREE and already feel like throwing in the towel. LOL
I know this is normal though and most everyone that does a juice fast feels this way at least once around this time.

Anyway, I think I am going to go ahead and eat dinner on Friday. Still debating on that though. I think what.. 6 and a half days juicing and then ONE meal isn't going to hurt anything. And I think next week will be modified juicing.
Maybe nothing but juice one day, then juice plus dinner the next. Or just do juice plus dinner every day. Not really sure.
I'm determined to make this work though. Maybe not the nothing but juice part, but the whole juicing thing.

These 3 days have shown me that I can stick with something though and is really motivating me to get back on to a STRICT primal eating diet. No more of this cheating here and there shit like we were doing. If I can go 3+ days with having nothing but juice, then my ass can eat CLEAN primal.

August 28th (1)

Woke up feeling fine. Yay! Can't believe I've only been at this 2 days. Feels like an eternity! lol It's not even that I feel bad, it's just the want of something to eat. That variety.
Really craving a steak right now. Again not about hunger though, just the want and flavor.
Too bad you can't have broth on a juice fast b/c that would really help.

Weight this morning was 211 on the dot! Another little over 2lbs :) WOO

Oh other juices I fixed. Some SUPER tangy one for lunch.
1 granny smith
1 cucumber
4 celery stalks
6 kale leaves
1/4 lemon
1 inch of ginger

Reminded me of a salad dressing. Just add in some olive oil, pepper, salt etc and you'd have one.

I also made a before dinner juice. Tomato again, but added in some cilantro to see if it would add what it tastes like it's missing. Nope... just tasted like watered down tomato juice w/ cilantro lol. I had to add a little bit of hot sauce to it again. That little bit really helps with the savory cravings.
And for dinner, I made the beet juice again but with spinach instead of kale this time to see what the flavor would be like.
Not good.. that's what.
The beet flavor really showed through but it had a dirt after taste that was disgusting. I had to chug it down so I wouldn't have to taste it that much. BLEH!

Right now feeling ok. Kinda off again. Think it's just b/c I waited a bit too long before making my breakfast juice. Made the yummy one from yesterday morning. And looking at all of my stuff, I'm going to have to make another trip to the store tomorrow for more apples and cucumber. BAH!

August 27th (1)

Woke up with a dull headache. Didn't want to deal with that all day so took some tylenol for it. Feeling ok, but slightly off. Reminds me of when you have those crazy nights when you don't go to sleep. You just feel off and a bit weird the next day. It's a bit like that.
As far as hunger, I'm fine for now. But I know around lunch time is when the hunger might show up. There are some juice "soup" recipes that I may try to help with that. Make some tomato soup. Sounds good :)

Weighed myself this morning and came in at 213.6. A little over 2 lbs. Not too shabby but we'll see how things progress in these coming days.

Juice this morning was DELICIOUS!
I do have a photo of it but too lazy to get the camera.

It was

2 granny smith apples
1 1/2 -2 cups of grapes
1 cucumber
5 leaves of kale
1/4 lemon peeled

It was SOOOOO  good. The recipe I got it from uses 1 orange instead of the grapes, but we didn't buy any so I used grapes instead. Sweet and just... YUMMY. Too bad all of the juices can't be that sweet lol.

August 26th (3)

Wanted a seperate post for this.
Weighed myself this morning and I'm starting this at 215.8. BLEH!
I've read of people losing a few pounds the first day. I think b/c of the hot sauce used though, that probably won't happen with me. We'll see tomorrow morning.
I'm a total addict when it comes to weighing so yeah... hopefully I don't drive myself too crazy with that.
I also read that getting diarrhea is pretty common the first few days as your body "detoxes". I had my usual BM this morning and nothing since. *shrugs* Maybe that will happen later, maybe not. Maybe my body is freaking out and is trying to hold on to every little bit of solid food left in me. Who knows.
I'm peeing like there is no tomorrow though! Good lord, I'm up every 10 minutes to pee. You have to drink SO much water which means lots and lots and lots of trips to the bathroom. Staying so hydrated should do wonders to my skin and hair though hopefully :D

August 26th (2)

Day 1 is done! WOO! I survived! lol
There were points in the day where I wanted nothing more than to go stuff my face with food. It wasn't even about hunger either b/c I wasn't hungry. With juicing, you're supposed to make and drink more juice if you feel hungry which is what I did.
It was just the craving for wanting actual food. It sure didn't help that I was fixing some chicken in the slow cooker and it smelled AMAZING.
Sigh... this is going to be hard.
Anywho, I fixed a tomato juice for lunch. I wanted something more savory.

As you can see, it didn't produce a lot of juice which was disappointing.
Ingredients were
2 tomatoes
2 small carrots
2 stalks of celery
Small bunch of parsley
Splash of hot sauce

It was good. Tasted like a thinner V8. I think next time I'm going to add more celery and maybe some cilantro too. It wasn't enough though and I found myself hungry about an hour after.
I was still wanting savory so decided to add in a few more things.
No photo of it...

2 cups of spinach
1 tomato
2 celery
Half cucumber
3 carrots
Splash of hot sauce

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either. I used way too much hot sauce though. The added salt, even though it wasn't a lot is going to cause water retention. It tasted like carrots. Eating carrots= yummy, drinking carrots= BLEH. lol

Dinner was better and prettier :D

Now that is what I'm talking about! A nice amount from all of the stuff put in to it *nodnod*
This one was

1 beet
1 medium carrots
1 granny smith apple
4 leaves of kale
1 cucumber
 1/4 lemon peeled
1/4 lime peeled

It took a few swigs of it, but it grew on me and reminded me a lot of the frozen strawberry/banana smoothies we were making.
It was my first time with a beet too. Interesting and very pink :D

August 26th (1)

Woke up too early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Not sure if that's the reason for the weird feeling I'm having or the juicing. It's tolerable, just that kind of cloudy foggy feeling.
Had to go to Walmart to pick up a few more foods that we didn't get. More kale, spinach, etc. Smelled SO good in there. Like fresh pizza *drool* lol
All of this is def going to be difficult, but I'm determined.
Juice this morning was pretty darn tasty.
I think I'm going to have to buy sweeter apples though. Right now we only have granny smith so any juice with apple in it is pretty tart.
It was good though.
It consisted of

1 1/2c blueberries
2 granny smith apples
3 leaves of kale
1 tomato
1 cucumber

Wish I didn't have to peel the cucumber but store bought ones are disgusting w/ that nasty waxy shit on the outside. Don't want that getting in to my juice.

August 25th (2)

I don't do fancy food photos so... yeah :P heh

So, I just drank my first juice. Following the recipes here
It consisted of

2 granny smith apples
3 small carrots
5 leaves of kale
2 stalks of celery
1/2 cucumber

It was supposed to have spinach in it as well but I forgot to buy a bag.

And the verdict..... not bad, but also not great lol. When someone says that 'healthy' juices taste like grass, yeah... this one kind of did. But it really wasn't that bad. It was interesting to drink it and be able to recognize the different flavors. Like the celery and kale really stood out while the apples made it more sweet.
Anyway, not bad, def something I'll have to get used to but shouldn't be too bad.

You're supposed to drink 2 cups of water right after too to help dilute the juice some so your body digests it better. Doing that also helps you to feel full and yeah, I feel full ATM.
Ask me tomorrow at this time if I'm still feeling full :P heh

As for the juicer itself. Not bad. It yielded a good bit of juice, but I did have to run the pulp twice and probably could have a 3rd time as well. Large chunks of the stuff would fly in to the pulp tray part that needed to be juiced. When I ran the pulp, I got a good 1/2 cup of more juice. It's a little bit of a hassle, but not a huge deal.

August 25th (1)

So, I've decided to try juicing.

We watched that one documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead on Netflix a while ago.
DH told me that one of his friends went on a juice diet and lost A LOT of weight. I think over 100lbs.

It's always stuck with me. Is it something I could do... something I would WANT to do?
Before, the answer would've been a big HELLS NO... but now... now that my weight is not budging and that fall TTC date is creeping up fast, I'm desperate and am willing to try it.

So off to Walmart we went to see what cheap juicers they had to offer.

They had 3, all of the same type (there are 3? different types, centrifugal, masticating single something and a double masticating).... and I think a bunch of different types in those 3. I'm not entirely sure LOL.
I just know that centrifugal ones are cheap but don't press all of the juice out the best.
Masticating are a bit more expensive, slower but b/c of that get a lot of juice out.
And the other kind are only for rich people... :P

Anyway.... out of the 3, we decided on the Hamilton Beach. It was actually recommended on a juicing website I visited.

We then headed over to the produce section and loaded up on my long list of juice ingredients. Not sure if it is supposed to last me the week, but I can always go back and get more if I need to.

I'm going to start this tonight... August 25th 2013.

So what do I have to do? Basically, no solid foods. I plan on going a week and taking it from there. If all is fine by the end, then another week and so on.
I already told DH that I won't be going out to dinners on Fridays. At least not yet.

And yea we will see how this goes. I'll post updates and whatnot. Apparently the first few days are hell while your body adjusts. Fun.
